Selling can be Sharing

When it’s a damn good horse.

Memphis sold at the end of last year and I’m still in my feelings (almost hoping he wouldn’t sell, LOL so I could keep him and be selfish), but I know it’s for the best.

So here I am writing a sappy letter about him!

Memphis gave me the confidence to go into my first show ring May 2023, with less than two years riding horses–in life. (With thanks to Jessica O’Connor Equine Imagery for this AMAZING photo) The resulting rail class was a mess, LOL, but I have this documentation that it was Memphis, my goodest boy, who made be believe I could do whatever I wanted with the right partner at the right time of my journey.

Memphis taught me that it’s OK to not want to change who you are–there is comfort in being consistent and constant in your gifts. And that sometimes the best teachers come to push you to your next level, and then both of you will depart ways. That has been the hardest lesson for me, and while I’ve matched other horses from my herd with their new owners, this one has been the hardest.

Who I am today has changed from who I thought I wanted to be when I bought him almost two years ago. Who I want to be in the future. It’s clearer now. To keep him, he wouldn’t be able to teach others, to move them to their next best level. I believe in sharing.

I’m so glad it seems like in his new home he’ll be loved by two folks who need him exactly as he is: a perfect gentleman reiner.
